Cuenca Taxi
Effect 1……Alphabet Soup
Inspired by a taxi ride in Cuenca Ecuador, but can be performed even if you don’t live in Ecuador or ride in taxis anywhere.
Spectator A is given a sealed envelope…….inside is another envelope and inside that envelope are two slips of paper prepared days before.
Spectator B shuffles a deck of cards and spreads them on the table top.
The mentalist sits at the table of shuffled cards and reads card designations from one of the slips of paper originally given to Spectator A to hold, such as Queen of Hearts prompted by the letters QH on the slip of paper.
Four cards are selected in this manner, without Spectator B or the mentalist having seen the faces of the cards.
After the cards are selected, a scribe in the audience reads the four cards as called for.
Each of the cards named by the scribe is found to be one of the four cards called for by the mentalist and selected by Spectator B from the list written in the back of a Cuenca Taxi days before.
Effect 2…….Some numbers
Later in the program, Spectator C gets 4 spectators to call out two digit numbers.
Spectator C totals these 4 numbers on a marker board.
The mentalist then retreives the second slip of paper from Spectator A (given to Spectator A at the beginning of the show). The mentalist gives this “some numbers” billet to Spectator C who opens the folded slip of paper to find the slip of paper created days before in the back of a Cuenca Taxi contains the total of the four random numbers given to Spectator C only moments ago by four random spectators.
