Pure Thought is an English translation of an expression originally attributed to Kant and Hegel. Their usage of the German counterpart revolved around the question of whether Pure Thought could exist without an object or some physical material... yes... yes it can!
Show a red deck of cards. Your spectator stops you at any time while you dribble the cards. They memorize their selection. You then fan the cards to reveal one blue card. Wouldn't it be incredible if that were their card? All the cards above the blue card are shown to be blank! And all the cards under the blue card are also shown to be blank. You name their card correctly. It must be the blue card, right? WRONG! The blue card, along with the entire deck, is blank. The selection was Pure Thought.
