The Ace Problem is the single most popular effect from Hofzinser’s classic card problems. Many, many magicians have tackled this effect over the years, and it never fails to generate astonishment. A freely selected card swaps places with an Ace of the same suit. In the eighth lesson, Dani shares with you his solution to this unbelievable effect.
Here’s what happens:
1. The spectator removes the aces from the deck, then spreads the deck face down. They freely remove a card from the deck and show it to everyone.
2. The aces are given to another spectator, and the selected card is lost back in the deck.
3. The audience is told that the selected card will influence the Aces. The card is named, and when the audience member spreads the Aces, a single ace matching the suit of the named card is now face down.
4. The deck is spread, and impossibly there is only one card face down, and when the audience looks through the spread, they do not see their card.
5. Both of the face-down cards are turned over, and impossibly the Ace and the selected card have changed places!
